Dhruv Rathee News: A parody account’s post has put YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in legal trouble. A parody account with the handle @dhruvrahtee made a false claim on social media.
The claim said that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s daughter Anjali Birla has passed the UPSC exam without appearing in it.
A senior official said on Saturday that Maharashtra’s cyber police has registered a case against popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee while a parody account posted a fake message about Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s daughter on X (formerly Twitter).
The X (formerly Twitter) account’s bio reads-
“This is a fan and parody account and is not associated with the original account of @dhruv_rathee. I am not impersonating anyone. This account is a parody.”
The police have registered a case against the YouTuber under sections of the IT Act along with defamation of the Indian Justice Code, intentional insult with intent to disturb the peace and statement causing mischief.
The FIR has been registered on the complaint of a close relative of Speaker Om Birla.
When the officer was asked that the alleged fake message was posted by a parody account and not Dhruv Rathee, the officer said-
“We are investigating the matter.”
The parody account posted another tweet on Saturday, saying-
“As per the instructions of @MahaCyber1, I have deleted all my posts and comments on Anjali Birla. – I would like to apologize as I was unaware of the facts and copied someone else’s tweet and shared it.”
Now it remains to be seen what action the Maharashtra Police and Cyber Cell take on this.
